Open Shift schedule →What is the shift schedule planner?
A free, private planner for days-on / days-off shift rotations — the kind worked offshore, on security details, in healthcare and in transport. Give it an anchor date you know is the start of an on-shift block, plus how many days you work and how many you have off, and it tells you whether any date is on or off, a full-year colour-coded calendar, and a table of every rotation period. It runs entirely in your browser, keeps your settings on your device, and works offline.
How to use Shift schedule
- Set your anchor date — Pick a date you know is the first day of an on-shift block. Every other day is worked out from it, so it doesn't matter which cycle you choose.
- Enter your pattern — Type the number of days on and days off, or pick a common pattern such as 7/7, 14/14 or 28/28 from the dropdown to fill them in for you.
- Read your schedule — The cards show today's status and your yearly totals, the calendar colours every day on (blue) or off (green), and the table lists each rotation period with its dates.
- Check any date or export — Use the date picker — or click a day on the calendar — to see its status and which period it belongs to. Then download the rotation as a CSV, an .ics calendar or a PDF.
Frequently asked questions
How does it work out my shifts?
From the anchor date it counts whole days and repeats your on/off cycle forwards and backwards. Because it's pure date arithmetic, any date's status is exact and instant — no schedule is stored or guessed.
Can it do patterns like 2-2-3 (Panama)?
No. This tool models a single repeating block of N days on then M days off. Rotations that alternate within a week, like the 2-2-3 Panama pattern, don't fit that simple cycle, so they aren't offered.
What does the .ics export contain?
One all-day event for each on-shift block in the chosen year, titled with your shift label (or “On shift”). Import it into Google, Apple or Outlook calendars to see your rotation alongside everything else.
Is my schedule saved anywhere online?
No. Your anchor date, pattern and shift label are saved only in this browser's local storage on your device. Nothing is uploaded, and the planner keeps working offline.
Why pick an anchor on an on-shift day?
The anchor marks day one of an on block, which the cycle counts from. If you set it to an off day the on/off labels will be inverted — move it to the first day you actually work.
Tips
- If you're unsure of the exact start of a cycle, set the anchor to any recent first-day-on and check today's card to confirm it matches your real status.
- Add a shift label like “Night shift” so it shows on the cards and becomes the title of every exported calendar event.
- Change the display year to plan leave or appointments well ahead — the calendar and period table both follow it.
