What is Mute / replace video audio?

A free, private tool for changing a video's soundtrack, entirely in your browser. Remove audio strips the sound out of an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV without re-encoding the picture — a fast, lossless copy that is ideal before sharing a clip whose background chatter you'd rather drop. Replace audio swaps the soundtrack for an audio file you choose (MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG): the video frames are copied losslessly while the new audio is encoded on your device and clipped to the video's length. Nothing is uploaded, and no watermark is added.

How to use Mute / replace video audio

  1. Load a video — Drop the file onto the tool or click to choose it.
  2. Pick a mode — Choose Remove audio for a silent copy, or Replace audio and select the new soundtrack file.
  3. Choose the format — MP4 plays everywhere; WebM suits the web. In both modes the picture is copied without quality loss.
  4. Process and download — Click Process & save, preview the result, and download it.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. Both modes run inside your browser — the tool works offline.

Does removing or replacing audio re-encode the video?

No — the video track is copied packet-for-packet in both modes, so the picture quality is untouched and processing is fast. Only the new audio (in replace mode) is encoded.

What happens if the new audio is longer or shorter than the video?

Longer audio is clipped to the video's length. Shorter audio simply ends early, leaving the rest of the video silent.

Why did replace fail for my file?

The video's codec must be allowed in the chosen container — e.g. a VP8 WebM can't be wrapped in MP4 without re-encoding. Try the other output format; if you need a codec change too, run the video through Convert video to MP4 first.
