Open ICE scoring →What is ICE scoring?
ICE scoring is a quick way to rank improvement ideas by rating each one for Impact, Confidence and Ease on a 1–10 scale. This tool multiplies the three numbers into a single Impact × Confidence × Ease score and sorts your ideas so the strongest candidate sits on top. Everything is saved on your device and runs fully offline.
How to use ICE scoring
- Add an idea — Create a card for each improvement you're weighing up, and note the problem and root cause it addresses.
- Rate Impact, Confidence and Ease — Score each card from 1 to 10 for how big the impact is, how confident you are, and how easy it is to do.
- Read the live ranking — The ICE score (Impact × Confidence × Ease) updates instantly and the list re-sorts with the highest score first.
- Assign and export — Add an owner and due date, then export the board to JSON, CSV, PNG or PDF to share or archive.
Frequently asked questions
How is the ICE score calculated?
It's simply Impact multiplied by Confidence multiplied by Ease, each rated 1–10. The maximum possible score is 1,000, and cards are sorted from highest to lowest.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Cards are saved in your browser on your own device and the whole tool works offline — nothing is sent to a server.
Can I track who owns each idea?
Yes. Every card keeps an owner and a due date alongside the problem and root cause, so a ranked idea is ready to action.
What can I export?
You can export the board as JSON or CSV for data, or as a PNG image or PDF for sharing in a report or meeting.
When should I use ICE instead of a full matrix?
ICE is fast and lightweight — ideal for quickly triaging a backlog of ideas. Reach for an impact-effort or risk matrix when you need a more visual two-axis comparison.
Tips
- Be honest with Confidence — a low score flags ideas that need more evidence before you commit.
- Keep your 1–10 ratings consistent across cards so the ranking is fair.
- Use the problem and root cause fields so a high-scoring idea explains itself later.
- Export to PNG or PDF to drop the ranked list straight into a prioritisation review.
