How to use Sales tax & VAT calculator
- Choose a direction — Pick 'Add tax (net → gross)' to add tax to a price, or 'Remove tax (gross → net)' to work backwards from a tax-inclusive price.
- Enter the amount and rate — Type the amount and the tax / VAT rate as a percentage. Pick a currency symbol from the list if you want one shown.
- Read the breakdown — The headline shows the result, and the breakdown lists net, the tax amount at your rate, and the gross total.
Frequently asked questions
Can it work out the tax already inside a price?
Yes. Switch to 'Remove tax (gross → net)', enter the tax-inclusive price and the rate, and it shows the net price and exactly how much tax was included.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser, so the figures you enter never leave your device, and it works offline.
Does it support VAT as well as sales tax?
Yes. VAT and sales tax both work as a simple percentage of the price, so enter your rate and the maths is the same either way.
Are my last entries remembered?
Yes. Your amount, rate, currency and direction are saved in your browser so they're still there next time you open the tool.
Tips
- Use 'Remove tax' to check how much VAT is baked into a receipt or invoice total.
- Pick 'No symbol' in the currency list if you just want the plain numbers.
- Enter the rate as a percentage figure — for example 20 for 20%, not 0.2.
