It reads the PDF's own text layer — every run of type with its position, size and font — and recovers the structure from it: paragraphs that were wrapped across lines are joined back up, larger or bolder lines become real Heading 1–3 styles, bullet and numbered lines become proper Word lists, bold and italic runs are kept, and simple grid tables come across as real Word tables. Everything happens in your browser, so the document is never uploaded and the tool keeps working offline.
How to use PDF to Word

- Check the preview — The panel below shows exactly what the .docx will contain: headings, paragraphs, lists and tables, page by page.
- Tune the conversion — Switch between flowing paragraphs and one paragraph per line, and turn heading, table, list and bold/italic detection on or off until the preview matches your document.
- Pick pages if you need to — Leave Pages empty for the whole file, or type something like 1-3, 7 to convert only part of it.
- Download the .docx — Use the download button in the tool header to save a Word document named after your PDF. Open it in Word, LibreOffice, Google Docs or Pages.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The whole conversion runs in your browser using the vendored pdf.js and a Word writer built into the page, so the file and its contents never leave your device. It also works offline after the first load.
Will the Word file look exactly like the PDF?
No, and it is not meant to. This converts the text layer into a properly structured, editable document — headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and character styling. Images, vector drawings, exact column positions and page furniture are not carried over. If you need a pixel-faithful copy, keep the PDF or convert the pages to images instead.
Does it work on a scanned PDF?
No. A scan is a picture of a page with no text layer to read, so the converter finds nothing. Run it through the OCR tool first to get the text, then bring that into a document.
Why did some paragraphs come out as separate lines?
The converter only joins two lines when the spacing, indentation and type size all say they were one wrapped paragraph. Dense layouts, multi-column pages and tightly-set tables deliberately fall back to keeping the line breaks, which is the safer result. Switching Layout to "Keep every line break" makes that the behaviour everywhere.
How are tables detected?
By whitespace. Where two or more consecutive lines split into the same set of column positions, that block becomes a Word table. A table whose columns are separated only by ruled lines with no gutter will come across as ordinary text — turn Tables off in that case to avoid a stray grid.
Are the headings real Word headings?
Yes. They are written as Heading 1–3 styles with outline levels, so Word's navigation pane, document map and automatic table of contents all pick them up rather than seeing manually enlarged text.
Tips
- Watch the preview while you toggle the options — it is generated from exactly the same data as the .docx, so what you see is what you will get.
- If a page's layout confuses the table detector, untick Tables and convert that page as plain paragraphs instead.
- Use the Pages box to pull a single chapter or appendix out of a long report without editing anything afterwards.
- Turn off Bold & italic when you want a clean, unformatted draft to restyle from scratch.
