What is the PDF metadata editor?

A free, private tool to view, edit or wipe a PDF's hidden document properties — title, author, subject, keywords, the software that made it, and the creation and modification dates — then save a clean copy. The file is read and rewritten entirely in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, and it works offline after the first load.

How to use PDF metadata editor

  1. Open a PDF — Drop a PDF onto the box or click to choose one. Its document properties are read in your browser.
  2. Review the properties — See the current title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer and the creation and modification dates laid out in a grid.
  3. Edit or wipe — Change any field, or click 'Wipe all fields' to clear every property and produce a clean copy.
  4. Apply and download — Use the 'Apply & download' button in the header to save a new PDF with your updated metadata.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is read and rewritten entirely in your browser using the built-in PDF engine, so the file never leaves your device.

Which properties can I edit?

Title, author, subject, keywords, creator (the authoring app), producer (the PDF software), and the creation and modification dates.

Does this remove text or images from the pages?

No. It only edits the document-information properties. To black out content on the page itself, use the Redact PDF tool instead.

How do I strip all metadata at once?

Click 'Wipe all fields' to clear every property, then apply and download to get a clean copy with the metadata removed.

Will my original file be changed?

No. The original stays as-is; the tool saves a separate copy with a '-metadata' suffix in the filename.
