A free, private tool to view, edit or wipe a PDF's hidden document properties — title, author, subject, keywords, the software that made it, and the creation and modification dates — then save a clean copy. The file is read and rewritten entirely in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, and it works offline after the first load.
How to use PDF metadata editor
- Open a PDF — Drop a PDF onto the box or click to choose one. Its document properties are read in your browser.
- Review the properties — See the current title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer and the creation and modification dates laid out in a grid.
- Edit or wipe — Change any field, or click 'Wipe all fields' to clear every property and produce a clean copy.
- Apply and download — Use the 'Apply & download' button in the header to save a new PDF with your updated metadata.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is read and rewritten entirely in your browser using the built-in PDF engine, so the file never leaves your device.
Which properties can I edit?
Title, author, subject, keywords, creator (the authoring app), producer (the PDF software), and the creation and modification dates.
Does this remove text or images from the pages?
No. It only edits the document-information properties. To black out content on the page itself, use the Redact PDF tool instead.
How do I strip all metadata at once?
Click 'Wipe all fields' to clear every property, then apply and download to get a clean copy with the metadata removed.
Will my original file be changed?
No. The original stays as-is; the tool saves a separate copy with a '-metadata' suffix in the filename.
Tips
- Wipe all fields before sharing a PDF publicly to remove author names and authoring-app traces.
- Keywords are comma-separated — list several to make the document easier to find later.
- Check the creator and producer fields to see which software generated the PDF.
- Use Redact PDF for sensitive content on the page; the metadata editor only touches document properties.
