What is the Hijri ⇄ Gregorian converter?

A date converter that translates dates both ways between the Gregorian and Islamic (Hijri) calendars. It uses the Umm al-Qura calendar built into your browser, so there are no data files and no network calls — it runs fully offline. Note that local moon-sighting can differ from the calculated Umm al-Qura date by a day.

How to use Hijri ⇄ Gregorian converter

  1. Pick a direction — Choose Gregorian → Hijri or Hijri → Gregorian with the toggle at the top.
  2. Enter the source date — For Gregorian → Hijri, pick a date in the date field. For Hijri → Gregorian, enter the day (1–30), choose the Hijri month and type the year in AH.
  3. Read the converted date — The result card shows the converted date, including the weekday and the full date in both calendars.

Frequently asked questions

Which Hijri calendar does it use?

It uses the Umm al-Qura calendar that your browser provides through the Intl date API, so no external data files are needed.

Why might the date differ from what I observe?

Umm al-Qura is a calculated calendar. Your local moon-sighting may begin a month a day earlier or later, so the converted date can differ by one day.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The conversion happens entirely in your browser with no network calls, so it works offline after the first load.

Why does some date say it isn't valid?

Hijri months have 29 or 30 days. If you enter a day that doesn't exist in that month and year — for example day 30 of a 29-day month — the converter flags it instead of guessing.

What if conversion isn't available in my browser?

A few older browsers don't provide the Umm al-Qura calendar. If that happens, the tool tells you and suggests a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
