Open Org chart maker →What is the org chart maker?
A tool that builds an organisation chart directly on an interactive canvas. Click a person to open their menu, edit their name and role in place, add direct reports, give individual cards their own accent and border colour, and drag someone onto a new manager to re-parent their whole team. The chart lays itself out top-down as you go, and you can pan, zoom, fit-to-view and go full screen. Export it as an SVG vector, a PNG image, a PDF document, or JSON to save and reload later. It runs fully offline in your browser, and your chart is saved locally so it's still there next time.
How to use Org chart maker
- Start from the example — The maker opens with an example chart. Click any card and press Enter — or click it again — to edit that person's name and role in place.
- Build the hierarchy — Click the + under any card to add a direct report; reports lay out automatically beneath their manager. Drag a card onto someone else to move that person — with their whole team — under a new manager.
- Recolour and rearrange — Open a person's menu to give just that card its own accent and border colour, reorder people at the same level with the arrows, or promote someone back to the top level.
- Style and export — Pick a chart-wide accent and box-fill colour to match your brand, then download the chart as SVG, PNG, PDF or JSON from the Download menu.
Frequently asked questions
How do I edit someone's name and role?
Click a person to select them, then click again — or press Enter or F2 — to edit in place. The card shows two fields: the name on top and the role or title below. Press Enter to save or Escape to cancel.
How do I say who reports to whom?
The + under a card adds a direct report beneath that person. To change a reporting line later, just drag the person's card onto whoever should be their new manager; their team moves with them.
Can I colour individual cards?
Yes. Select a person and use the Accent and Border colour pickers in their menu to override just that card; everything else keeps the chart-wide accent and box-fill. Choose Reset to clear a card's overrides and fall back to the chart colours.
Can I have more than one person at the top?
Yes. Any nested person can be promoted back to the top level from their menu, so co-heads or separate branches are fine — and importing JSON with several top-level people works too.
What formats can I export?
SVG for a sharp, scalable vector, PNG for a quick image, PDF for a document, or JSON to save the chart and re-import it later — all generated in your browser.
Will my chart be saved, and does it work offline?
Yes to both. The chart is stored locally in your browser and rebuilt on your device with no upload and no AI, so it keeps working without a connection. Use Clear to start fresh.
Tips
- Click a card once to open its menu; click again to edit the name and role in place.
- Give a card its own accent and border colour from its menu to highlight a team or a role; Reset returns it to the chart colours.
- Drag a card onto another to re-parent that person and their whole team under a new manager.
- Export SVG when the chart needs to scale cleanly for print or large displays, or JSON to reload and keep editing later.
