Background remover
Erase the background from any photo and download a transparent PNG. Runs entirely in your browser — your image never leaves your device.
Open Background remover →What is the background remover?
A tool that erases the background from a photo and gives you a transparent PNG to download. Your image stays on your device — it is decoded and processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded. On first use only, the removal model downloads from a CDN and is then cached for offline use.
How to use Background remover
- Add your image — Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP onto the dropzone, or click to choose a file from your device.
- Remove the background — Click "Remove background". The first run downloads the model once; after that it runs offline.
- Compare the result — View the original and the cut-out side by side, with a checkerboard behind the result so you can see the transparency.
- Download the PNG — Save the result as a transparent PNG, or click "Choose another image" to process a different photo.
Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Your image is decoded and processed entirely in your browser and never leaves your device. Only the removal model itself is downloaded once from a CDN.
Why does the first run need an internet connection?
The background-removal model is too large to bundle, so it downloads from a CDN the first time you use the tool. Your browser then caches it, and later runs work offline.
What image formats can I upload?
JPG, PNG and WebP images are supported. The result is always saved as a transparent PNG.
Why is the output a PNG?
PNG supports transparency, so the area where the background used to be stays see-through. Formats like JPG cannot store transparency.
What kinds of images work best?
Photos with a clear subject — a person, product or object — against a distinct background give the cleanest cut-outs. Very busy or low-contrast backgrounds may leave rough edges.
Tips
- Use a photo where the subject stands out clearly from the background for the cleanest edges.
- Keep the transparent PNG so you can drop the subject onto any new background later.
- Run the tool once while online so the model is cached, then it works offline afterwards.
